Should you put hobbies on your CV?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer here. The question you should be asking yourself isn’t “should I put hobbies on my CV?”, but rather “what value do my hobbies add to my CV?”.

The key considerations are:

  • Could the space be used for more persuasive information?
  • Do your hobbies make you sound interesting, or interested in the job?
  • Do your hobbies add to, or merely duplicate,
skills mentioned elsewhere on the CV?
  • Is your professional experience more relevant to the role than the hobbies on your CV?

There’s no hard and fast rule about whether you should include your hobbies on your CV or not, but this infographic will help you to make an informed decision.

If you liked this infographic about including hobbies on your CV, there are several other infographics on my
blog – which also has plenty of advice about CVs and job search. Alternatively, if you’d rather offload the chore of writing your CV, I’ll do it for you! Just fill in this short
order form to reclaim time to spend on your hobbies.
